Andreas Hourdakis is a groundbreaking jazz guitarist from Malmö. Few Swedish guitarists move as freely between different musical worlds as he does. In recent years, he has performed everywhere from renowned jazz venues and sweat-soaked rock clubs to Sweden’s largest arenas. On his latest album Report To Keftiu (2024), he pays tribute to Crete—the island where his Greek family has its roots—through original compositions and an interpretation of a traditional Cretan folk melody. Drawing on the island’s rich musical heritage, he pushes the boundaries of jazz with genre-blurring improvisations and an electrifying stage presence.
An early grounding in hardcore and metal has left a clear imprint on his rhythmic and improvisational language. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and has collaborated with leading musicians such as Magnus Öström, Lars Danielsson, Karin Hammar, Cæcilie Norby, Jeanette Lindström and Ilaria Capalbo. These collaborations have taken him to some of Europe’s most respected jazz stages—yet wherever he performs, his personal sound remains unmistakable.
“Everyone performs at a high level, not least Andreas Hourdakis himself, who plays brilliantly throughout the album.” — Lira on Report To Keftiu
With his group, made up of some of Sweden’s leading jazz musicians, he has toured across several European countries and now looks forward to performing in his hometown.
