With his powerful sound and strong musical expression, Malmö-based alto saxophonist and composer Hannes Bennich has quickly made a name for himself on the Nordic jazz scene. Following his acclaimed debut album When Losing a Dream To Reality (2022), Hannes now releases the follow-up All Ages At Once with the same group. The album is inspired by the idea that we carry all our ages within us at once — how a sound, a scent, or a place can suddenly transport us back in time and feel as vivid as yesterday. It’s a reflection on how our most significant memories shape us as individuals, influence our future, and color our sense of self.
Born in 1994 in Norrköping, Hannes began playing the saxophone at the age of ten. Since 2016, he has been based in Malmö, where he studied at the Academy of Music.
He has been recognized for his rhythmic drive, technical freedom, and distinctive tone, and is active in a wide range of projects. Among others, he is a permanent member of Ola Åkerman’s Common Ground alongside Karl-Martin Almqvist, Johnny Åman, Johan Leijonhufvud, and Sal Dibba, as well as part of Helen Salim’s band, which made its debut in 2021 with the critically acclaimed album Imaginary Gardens. In recent years, he has toured extensively across Europe with, among others, Kathrine Windfeld Sextet, OTOOTO, and Pawky.
Hannes’s debut album was released on October 28, 2022, on the British label Whirlwind Recordings, making him the first Swedish bandleader to be signed to the label.
