Ida Sand has soul, gospel and jazz running through her veins. Her warm, heartfelt sound feels just as natural in a church as it does in a smoky jazz club. In her voice, the fire of gospel meets the melancholy of the blues and the rhythmic pulse of soul jazz, coloured by a Nordic tone. She combines refined, expressive piano playing with a voice and presence that draw the listener in, backed by a band that brings depth, energy and precision to her music.

A motif surfaces, a rhythm takes shape—Holland smiles, Waits responds with subtle shifts in the groove, and Shaw lets the melody unfold, rising to ecstatic heights. Solos are passed around like a feast, where each musician adds their own flavors and textures, shaping the music in real time.

Raised in a family surrounded by opera and church music, Ida chose early on to find her own musical path. Her sound lives in the space where jazz, blues, soul and gospel meet, while her songwriting is inspired by storytellers and melodic greats like Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Paul Simon.

Since her debut record in 2007, she has established herself as one of Sweden’s most distinctive and expressive voices. She has released six albums on the German label ACT Records (Naxos) and collaborated with artists including trombonist Nils Landgren, Carola, Bo Sundström, Jerry Williams, Christian Walz, Lisa Nilsson and Orup.

Ida Sand is also widely recognised for her personal interpretations of other artists’ music, particularly on the acclaimed Neil Young tribute Young at Heart. Her latest album, Do You Hear Me Now? (2021), is her most personal to date, featuring songs written entirely by her.
