The septet’s third album, Humankind, is the group’s most ambitious project to date – recorded over five intense days at the legendary Atlantis Studio. In addition to the seven original members, a number of guest musicians have contributed to realizing Johan Lindström’s vision: new music, without compromise.
Since their debut Music for Empty Halls (2018) – which received unanimous acclaim and earned the Swedish Radio Jazz Award for Group of the Year – the septet has established itself as one of Sweden’s most original and celebrated ensembles. Their follow-up, On the Asylum, featuring guest appearances by Elvis Costello, won the Swedish Grammy for Jazz Album of the Year in 2022.
Behind the music stands Johan Lindström – guitarist, pedal steel player, pianist, arranger, producer, and composer – often described as a musical magician. He has worked with some of Sweden’s most prominent artists, including Rebecka Törnqvist, Lisa Nilsson, Ane Brun, Isabella Lundgren, Weeping Willows, and many more. Besides his role in Tonbruket, he has served as Composer in Residence for the Norrbotten Big Band and written commissioned works for, among others, the Swedish Army Band.
With his septet, he has created a living organism of musical personalities – handpicked musicians who each contribute their own unique expression and rawness. Together, they shape a sound where precision meets spontaneity, and every note seems to carry a story.
On stage:
Johan Lindström – guitar, pedal steel, etc.
Per “Texas” Johansson – tenor saxophone, clarinets, flutes
Jonas Kullhammar – saxophones, flutes
Mats Äleklint – trombone
Jesper Nordenström – organ, piano
Torbjörn Zetterberg – bass
Konrad Agnas – drums
