MARILYN

Written and performed by Karin Grönberg
Photographer: Gert Bohlin
She was born Norma Jeane. She died Marilyn Monroe. Her greatest ambition was to be recognised as a serious actress, but in a male-dominated world she was moulded into a sex symbol. Marilyn Monroe was celebrated, admired, and adored across the globe – yet behind the glittering façade lived a lonely, unloved Norma. Singer and actress Karin Grönberg, known for her acclaimed portrayals of Edith Piaf and Judy Garland, now takes on the legend of Marilyn Monroe for the very first time.

Marking the 100th anniversary of Monroe’s birth, Grönberg presents the world premiere of MARILYN, joined on stage by some of southern Sweden’s leading jazz musicians under the direction of trumpeter, bandleader, and arranger Mårten Lundgren.

A multi-talented performer – singer, actress, and organist – Karin Grönberg writes and creates her own productions. She began interpreting Edith Piaf at the age of eighteen and has since become a distinctive voice in the chanson tradition. Trained at Skara Skolscen, Ersta Sköndal University, and the Malmö Academy of Music, she has previously created PIAF & JAG (2010), MITT FRANKRIKE (2021), and JUDY GARLAND (2022), all of which have been staged at Victoriateatern.

Her productions have toured widely across Sweden, with appearances at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm, Göteborgs Stadsteater, Helsingborgs Stadsteater, Borås Stadsteater, Västerås Konserthus, and Uppsala Konsert & Kongress. In spring 2025 she also performed in Paris.
