Twang is celebrated for its presence, honesty, and tight interplay, both with the audience and among the musicians themselves. It is not uncommon for listeners to shed a tear one moment and burst into laughter the next. Many remember their striking three part harmonies and the way instruments suddenly change hands during the performance. With an abundance of musical energy, storytelling, and playful banter, the songs are woven into a vivid live experience.
The trio consists of Thyge Van Dassen on fiddle and vocals, Spencer Gross on guitar, double bass, and vocals, and Peter Banks on banjo, double bass, and vocals, with roots in Denmark and the United States. The band met in 2014 as students at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, where all three stood out for their shared passion for American folk music. Since then, they have been driven to challenge the folk scene and bring something new to the tradition. This has led to hundreds of concerts across Denmark and three albums: Bebzy Biddle (2017), the live album Live Tapes Volume 1 (2019), and the collaborative album Svante Sjöblom and Twang (2022).
Twang received the Danish Music Awards 2024 for Best Roots Artist and was also nominated for Best Song for “UFO” from the album Propaganda, as well as for Best Composer.
