Nyberg has received several prestigious awards, including her first Grammy as early as 1995, the Gyllene Skivan in 2017, and the esteemed Jan Johansson Scholarship in 2021. In 2006, she co-founded IMPRA, an organization that works towards a more equitable music scene, and in 2020, she became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. She is currently an Associate Professor of Jazz Voice at the Grieg Academy at the University of Bergen.
As an artist, Lina Nyberg is both outstanding and innovative. She composes for and performs with everything from big bands and orchestras to smaller ensembles. Her experimental spirit and uncompromising artistic vision continuously drive her towards new masterpieces.
Lina’s musical influences span generations, from Ella Fitzgerald to Radka Toneff and Cathy Berberian, which gives her expression an impressive breadth and depth.
On Lost In the Stars, Lina interprets Weill's music, but the album also features several original compositions. She describes the project as follows: “Weill lived and created his music in a time that, in some frightening ways, resembles our own. I am inspired by how he combines his art music background with cabaret, jazz, and musical theatre, as well as his profound humanistic, humorous, and loving approach to life and art in a changing time. It offers hope amid it all. My own compositions on this album are all inspired by a Weill song.”
