From the small Macedonian town of Strumica to the world's biggest stages – Džambo Aguševi Orchestra has made a remarkable journey. Džambo's playing style is deeply rooted in the rich brass band tradition of the Balkans, but his musical openness has made him continuously influenced by sounds from both East and West. Jazz, funk, soul, Turkish music, and film scores have all played a vital role in his development, and in combination with his Romani heritage, these influences have shaped the orchestra's unique and dynamic sound.
Born in 1987 in Strumica and raised in a family where music had been passed down for generations, Džambo showed a strong passion for the trumpet from a young age. Despite some hesitation from his family, who were aware of the tough conditions for musicians, he eventually received his first trumpet as a gift – a milestone that marked the beginning of his journey to becoming one of the Balkans' leading trumpet soloists.
The orchestra’s big breakthrough came when they began to dominate local festivals and brass band competitions, including the legendary Guča Festival in Serbia. Here, Džambo and his orchestra won first prize in 2011, a victory that cemented their status as a leading name in brass music. Since then, they have toured the world, continuing to win the hearts of both audiences and critics with their energetic and passionate performances.
The orchestra has released several successful albums, including "Brass Like It Hot" (2016) and "Brasses for the Masses" (2020), which have received international acclaim, despite the challenges of the pandemic. Džambo Aguševi Orchestra has also collaborated with several renowned artists, both from the Balkans and beyond, and continues to push boundaries on the international music scene.
