More about the artist

"The Rocket" seamlessly bridges two musical realms: the Swedish jazz group Svante Söderqvist Trio—featuring pianist Adam Forkelid, drummer Calle Rasmusson, and bassist and cellist Svante Söderqvist — and the innovative Estonian accordionist Tuulikki Bartosik. Together, they craft a dynamic, playful, and captivating sound that melds the acoustic with the electronic, the traditional with the avant-garde. This project is as much a musical exploration as it is a cultural connection across the Baltic Sea.

At the core of the ensemble is Svante Söderqvist, whose classically influenced jazz playing on double bass and cello provides a rich foundation. His strong, melodic compositions define the group’s sound, often elevated by the haunting addition of his wordless vocals. Tuulikki Bartosik enhances the texture with her accordion, deeply rooted in folk traditions yet expanded with electronic effects that lend a contemporary edge to the group’s acoustic palette.

Following the success of their debut album, Arrival (2020), the trio embarked on a quest to expand their musical horizons. This journey led to their collaboration with Tuulikki. Sharing a deep appreciation for Swedish folk music and a desire to push creative boundaries, their partnership developed naturally, yielding a vibrant and inspiring synergy.

Reflecting on the encounter, Tuulikki shares, “When I first heard Svante’s trio play live, I was captivated by their incredible musicality, tight ensemble, and, most importantly, the warm sound that spoke to me from the heart. It reminded me of my own musical journey, always exploring and curious.”

The Rocket transcends being merely a musical collaboration; it stands as a tribute to the Nordic landscape and a commitment to environmentally conscious touring. By prioritizing land-based transportation over air travel, the group demonstrates a respect for the planet that echoes their artistic vision.

It doesn’t matter what you bring – take-away pizza at one table is followed by oysters and caviar at the next. Bring what you feel like, and don't forget to bring glasses and cuttlery!

Please note that you may not bring food if you have tickets for the balcony, only drinks and snacks.
