More about the artist

Wu Fei is a virtuoso on the guzheng, trained in classical Chinese music but with a unique path that also encompasses improvisation and folk music. In collaboration with three prominent musicians from the Belgian improvisation scene, Wu Fei creates a musical journey inspired by ancient Chinese poetry and the rhythm of the waves.

Every day, the coastlines around the world transform as the tides shift from high to low and back again, every 12 hours and 25 minutes. A cycle in endless motion, guided by the power of the moon. This ancient rhythm is the source of inspiration for Wu Fei, the Chinese guzheng virtuoso. Together with her fellow musicians and the audience, she will weave a unique sound poem – an intense and personal journey in constant forward motion.

Wu Fei has released her solo album Yuan on John Zorn’s Tzadik label and collaborated with Fred Frith on Distant Youth. Alongside American banjo player Abigail Washburn, she creates a fusion of Kung Fu Appalachian folk. Her adventurous musical spirit is reflected in her fellow musicians: Dijf Sanders has explored the music of Java, Nepal, and most recently Georgia, crafting fascinating soundscapes that he has released across multiple albums. Drummer Simon Segers (De Beren Gieren, STADT, Black Flower, among others) moves freely between jazz, rock, and improvisation, developing a highly personal style. Louise van den Heuvel, bassist for the band Dishwasher_, recently released a critically acclaimed album with her own band Sonic Hug and has an insatiable thirst for musical adventures.

Picnic theater

This is a picnic event, or as we like to call is: Picnic theater. That means that you may bring your own food and drinks to the event.

It doesn’t matter what you bring – take-away pizza at one table is followed by oysters and caviar at the next. Bring what you feel like, and don't forget to bring glasses and cuttlery!

Please note that you may not bring food if you have tickets for the balcony, only drinks and snacks.
