Luiz was born in the musical paradise of Rio de Janeiro, a city where samba fills the bars and the streets are constantly alive with different rhythms and musical expressions. Growing up with samba in his blood and hearing it even before he was born, he developed an early love for singing and playing guitar. He has always felt "mestizo" in both body and soul, with Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, and Brazilian blood running through his veins – which explains why Luiz's musical expression carries such a unique and multicultural signature. Luiz seeks the deepest and most intimate roots through music, offering us the chance to experience and enjoy a true "Umami": the harmonious flavor created when different ingredients blend perfectly.
Since he was 17, Luiz has been working professionally in music, and one of his greatest passions is to develop and discover this "dance" between voice and guitar. He draws inspiration from the impressive Brazilian tradition of synchronizing these two expressions, while also enriching that tradition with influences and musical flavors from different parts of the world. His global musical journey has developed a language that takes this sound forward, and thus the word "dance" in Portuguese also serves as the imperative form of the verb, a metaphor for the "dance" between guitar and voice.
After studying music at three prestigious schools in Brazil – Universidade Livre Tom Jobim, Universidade Berklee Souza Lima, and Faculdade Santa Marcelina – Luiz received the "Premios Estímulos Música" in 2008, an award for new songwriters and composers in São Paulo, which allowed him to release his debut album in 2010.
Luiz has collaborated with several renowned musicians, including Gustav Lundgren, Maria Gadú, Macaco, Sergio Krakowski, Guello, Sylvinho Mazzuca Jr (Maria Rita), Ricardo Vogt, Faela, Unit, NuFolk Global Connections, and MiraMundo. He has performed in various projects, concerts, concert series, and festivals across the globe, including in Sweden, Mexico, Switzerland, Ecuador, Italy, Norway, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Austria, and Hungary.
